00039: Random Stuff Again

23 Days of the 30-Day Minimalism Game

23 Days, twenty-three items

As I declutter my home office, I’m finding that I have stuff I bought many years ago and I never used. In the image, for example, on the upper right corner there is a book, a small calendar, and there is collection of stickers. All about the Mayan Gods. I bought those at least 10 years ago. Yet, I never opened any of them. Luckily, I have a housemate who likes such stuff so they don’t go unused.

There are also keychains from my trip to Buenos Aires in 2017, a trip I took because I received a National Endowment for the Arts Award. The keychains from my trip to Mexico sometime in I don’t know when, but I do know it wasn’t 2019. Some of the postcards, (like the one with the dancer in death makeup), are from a trip to Albuquerque, NM back in 2012 when I attended the AJAAS Conference. All that stuff was never used.

The moral of the story is that I am realizing that sometimes I buy stuff I don’t need for the simple reason that I feel good about being in this places and buying stuff makes me believe that the feelings will never end, or I buy postcards because I plan to send them to family and/or friends but I never do.

So, my 23-days have arrived and now I am feeling a little more liberated. My home office is starting to look much more spacious and I cannot wait to show the results at the end of the 30 days. #carlosmanuelspeaksthetruth
